Miniature Horses Bring Joy to Chesapeake Place

Recently Chesapeake Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan and Courtney Culpepper from Grassfield Sport Horses visited Chesapeake Place Assisted Living with three miniature horses. The visit was the kickoff to Sheriff O’Sullivan and Culpepper’s Miniature Horse Therapy Program.  Using mini horses as therapy for elderly patients is a growing trend across the country. Since many of the elderly grew up on farms, equine visitors often evoke happy memories for them.  Sometimes the visits with mini horses have tremendous therapeutic value for those patients suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia.

During the visit the Sheriff talked to the residents about safety and Sergeant David Rosado performed a magic show for them.
