I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Chesapeake is a city of All-Stars!  This was made so evident to me this past month as I attended the First Citizen Awards Banquet and was reminded of not only the quality of this year’s recipient, Roland Davis, but of all the previous winners of the award.  Chesapeake is blessed with a galaxy of superstars like Judge Richard Bray, Commissioner of the Revenue, Ray Conner; publisher Jean Loxley-Barnard, and Congressman Randy Forbes to name just a few. And there are dozens of other folks just like them working around the city and region, in civic clubs, churches, schools, neighborhoods and philanthropic organizations.  Our city, and even our nation, runs well because of incredible, hard-working folks who get things done.

When you talk about people doing good deeds, you need to mention Taylor Grissom, our October Citizen of the Month. Congratulations to Taylor and many others who worked feverishly to organize the first Chesapeake Christian Music Fest, an awesome event with more than 4,000 attendees.  It was the first of its kind outdoor event in the city and was a successful fundraiser for Nelly’s House, an organization that feeds hungry kids in Haiti.
