October Brings the Annual Waterways Heritage Festival

Mark your calendar for October 12th and 13th to celebrate the 4th Annual Waterways Heritage Festival! Join us from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 12th and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the 13th to learn about our heritage!

The festival will be held at both Battlefield Park and Great Bridge Lock Park.

Enjoy boat tours through the Great Bridge Locks, docent tours of newly opened Battlefield Park, beekeeping, sheep shearing, quilting, spinning, soap making, candle-rolling, pottery, glassblowing, wood-carving, jewelry, jams, basketry, shaker boxes, storytelling, kettle corn, historic Batteaus Rose of Nelson and The Lady’s Slipper, BBQ box lunches, sewing, dulcimer expert Bert Berry, lamb cuisine featured by local Chef Wayne from Julianne’s, knitting, fiber arts, and Charles Murla on the violin, Oscar Smith High School’s “Strolling Strings,” and the amazing Bob Zentz.

Other participants include Army Corp of Engineers, Virginia Canal Society, Agricultural Extension, Master Gardeners, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Chesapeake Parks & Recreation, Chesapeake Medical Reserve Corps, Chesapeake Office of Emergency Management, Chesapeake Public Library, Mariners Museum, Girls on the Run, Chesapeake School System, Chesapeake Emergency Response Team, Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office, Chesapeake Fire Department, Chesapeake Police Department, Norfolk County Historical Society of Chesapeake, Chesapeake Farmers Market, The Dismal Swamp Company, Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission, WCTV 48, Atlantic Yacht Basin, Buy Fresh Buy Local Hampton Roads, Virginia Dare Soil & Water Conservation District, Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast, Chesapeake Amateur Radio Service, Virginia Cooperative Extension, The Tidewater Maritime Living History Association, and more. Grants making this possible are the Virginia Sheep Industry Board and Virginia Sheep Producers Wool Trust Fund.
