He fascinated the attendees with his inside stories of racing and tales about particular drivers.  He gave an extraordinary talk on the history of racing—and offered his insight on the future of NASCAR.

Pierce has spent the majority of his adult life watching and writing about racing.  He was born and reared in Rocky Mount, N.C., and graduated from Presbyterian College in S.C.

He taught school in Florida for a year before joining the Army for three years, including a year in Viet Nam.  After the Army he joined the staff at the Times-Herald, now the Daily Press in Newport News, where he covered sports for 35 years.  His real love is auto racing and has traveled far and wide covering the sport.  He is the editor of “Autoweek” magazine, a position he has held since 1973.  In his spare time he has authored 17 books about auto racing and the people involved.
