On a sad note we report the passing of Gene Brewer recently. Brewer was featured in our Veteran Spotlight in the February issue.  If you recall, he was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Sadly, we are losing more than 1,000 WWII veterans across the nation every day.

I took the opportunity to enjoy a Virginia political tradition a few weeks ago.  I attended the 65th Annual Shad Planking at Wakefield.  It was very enjoyable; lots of good food, beverages, great music, speeches and mingling with candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general.  The only thing missing was…Democrats!  It would have been so much more enjoyable to meet and hear from candidates from both parties.  We need a little more mingling and socializing from our politicos.  Our nation has become way too polarized. Let’s bring back civility and statesmanship.  After all, we’re all in this together.
