After a successful week in Richmond where he lobbied for additional jail space, Chesapeake Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan hosted a combination NCAA basketball and St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Khedive Shrine Activity Center. Dubbed “Hoops, Hops, and Shamrocks”, the sold out gala featured big screen televisions with tournament games in abundance, the Sheriff’s Pipe and Drum Corps, genuine Irish food delicacies, and assorted beverages that would make an Irishman proud. The traditional menu included Bangers and Mash, Corned Beef and Cabbage, and Shepherd’s Pie. The event was attended by approximately 400 supporters and many local community leaders, city council members, and Constitutional Officers.

During the festivities, Sheriff O’Sullivan proudly announced to the crowd that he had just returned from Richmond and had worked side by side with Chesapeake representatives in the General Assembly to successfully get a waiver from the Board of Corrections so that temporary housing at the city jail could finally be put in use.
