The Chesapeake Convention and Visitors Bureau will hold its second annual “Find Your U.O.U. in Chesapeake Photography Contest” from April 1 to May 3, 2013 in celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week. Entrants will submit photos of themselves enjoying Chesapeake and must creatively incorporate the letters, “U.O.U.” into their photos. The contest is a great opportunity for all amateur photographers, Hampton Roads residents and visitors to showcase the places they love in Chesapeake and to also win great prizes. The top five winners will all receive Visa gift cards, with the first prize winner receiving a $350 gift card.

Had the opportunity to hear a report recently from the president of Tidewater Community College, Chesapeake.  Dr. Edna Baehre-Kolovani, Ph.D reported that TCC is the 16th largest community college in United States with some 47,000 students. We’re all so proud of the expansion of the Chesapeake campus.

If you like politics, plan now to attend the upcoming 65th Annual Shad Planking in Wakefield.  There is always a bevy of politicians, pundits and political activists there.   It has been called the “Spring Rite of Virginia Politics” and has evolved into a political gossip festival — a place for candidates to see and be seen and for the curious to speculate about the likely winners and losers of the year’s coming campaign season.  And if  you’ve never tried Shad, well – you need to.  The Shad Planking goes from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. It’s put on by the Wakefield Sportsmen’s Club. For information contact Robert Bain at 757-641-8060 or by email at rob@shadplanking.com.

We hope you enjoy The Citizen of Chesapeake.  Please tell your friends about it. Remember, if they don’t receive it in the mail, it is available at more than 30 locations throughout the city including all Food Lion, Farm Fresh, Harris Teeter grocery stores.
